The line graph illustrates three different sectors that were worked by the number of people in a particular country from 1980 to 2020. Overall, the proportion of people who worked in the secondary sector increased across the period; the reverse was true for those who worked in the primary and the tertiary sectors.
Focusing on the decreases first, 50% of people worked in the tertiary sector in 1980, considerably more than the primary sector with 30%. This gap remained almost unchanged until the end of the period. After this, the percentage of people working in the tertiary and the primary sectors continued its trajectory, before reaching a trough 25% and 9%, respectively.
In contrast, the figures for the remaining sector registered a significant increase over the years. Starting at just above 20%, the proportion of people working in the secondary sector overtook the primary sector in 1990 and the tertiary sector in 2009. Additionally, the percentage of people working in the secondary sector reached its own peak of 45% in 2020 and remained the most workers sector in the final year.
