The diagram depicts Grange Park when it was established in 1920 and the same park at present.
Overall, the function of the park remains unchanged, catering for green space and entertainment facilities. Additionally, some of the gardens have been removed to make way for the construction of new services.
In 1920, the park mainly consisted of green space with only a small stage for musicians. To the upper left of the park, there was a rose garden surrounded by seats, and this pattern was also mirrored at the lower left of the map. In the middle of the park lay a fountain, which faced the two main entrances in opposite directions. A rose garden and a pond for water plants occupied the upper right area, while the lower right area contained seats and a glasshouse adjacent to the entrance.
Today, newly modern services have been added to the park. The rose garden at the upper left of the area stays intact, whereas other old facilities on the left side of this map are removed in order to build a big amphitheatre for concerts. In the middle, although the fountain has been converted to a square rose garden with seats, the two main entrances remain unchanged. To the upper right of the map, the cafe and the children’s play area replace the old rose garden and the pond, respectively. Similarly, the glasshouse and the seats at the lower right area have also been rebuilt into a water feature. Finally, a new entrance underground for car park is introduced.
