The maps give information about future changes that are proposed to a local road system to improve road safety.
Overall, the proposed changes will entail the restructuring of City Road and the construction of traffic solutions, including traffic lights and a roundabout.
Looking first at the northwestern side, at the intersection between City Road and Low Lane, where accidents happen very frequently, a set of 4 traffic lights will be installed, intended to make access to the school safer. Furthermore, City Road will be straightened to eliminate its sharp bends. At the south end of Low Lane, the current bottleneck is expected to be widened to increase the safety of residents living on both sides of the lane, which is currently at risk due to the high frequency of traffic incidents there.
A roundabout will be constructed where City Road and Forest Road intersect to better regulate the flow of traffic. Finally, shoppers will be able to access the supermarket from a new purpose-built road branching off of the roundabout, instead of the current accident-prone route from City Road.
