Overall, it can be clearly seen that the recycling process of waste glass bottles is a man-made, linear process, which consists of three main stages, including nine steps, commencing with the collection of waste glass bottles and culminating with the delivery of the products for sale.
In the first stage, waste glass bottles are gathered at collection points. After that, the collected bottles are transported by trucks to the processing facility.
In the second stage, several steps are taken in order to transform the waste glass into recycled products. Firstly, they are washed in high-pressure water to remove any impurities. Next, the bottles are sorted into three categories based on their colors: brown, green, and clear. Before being melted in a furnace, the glass containers are conveyed to the glass factory, where they are crushed into pieces to facilitate the melting process. Subsequently, the glass pieces are melted in a furnace with temperatures ranging between 600°C and 800°C. Following that, recycled liquid glass, together with new liquid glass, is moulded into new products.
In the last stage, the new bottles are filled with a variety of products and then transported back to supermarkets where they are made available for consumer purchase.
