These pie charts compare five groups of household expenses in both country of United Kingdom and New Zealand between 1980 and 2008.
It is clear that from 1989 to 2008, regardless of transport and food and drink costs, the proportion of all categories of household expenditures in UK slightly increased. In contrast, the percentage of all groups of household expenses except utility bills, in New Zealand fell moderately. However, in comparison between proportions of household expenses categories in two countries, there were both similarity and difference.
The percentages of food and drink expenditures decreased significantly from 23% to 13% in UK in 1980 to 2008. The proportion of this category had a slow decline from 29% to 23% at this period of time. Similarly, there were a slight fell of transport category percentages in both country during this 28-year period which is clear from 15% to 14% in UK and 17% to 16% in New Zealand. By contrast, there is a steady growth in proportion of utility bills between two countries of UK from 26% to 28% and New Zealand from 27% to 31%.
There is a noticeable contrast between percentages of leisure category expenditures of UK and New Zealand. The leisure costs paid in UK during 1980 to 2008, had a marginal improvement from 27% to 34%. But the slight decrease from 18% to 17% is clear in the proportion of leisure category expenses in New Zealand during these certain years. Additionally, the years from 1980 to 2008 saw a same gradual increase in percentages of other expenses from 9% to 11% in both countries of UK and New Zealand.
