Overall, there were significant decreases in the percentages of UK visitors aged 25–34 and 35–54, with the figure of the middle-aged group experiencing the most dramaticdrop. In contrast, the proportion of tourists aged 55 and over rose markedly, becoming the second largest age group in 2003. Additionally, the figure of younger age groups increased slightly over the period.
The percentage of UK visitors aged 35–54 to Spain was the highest in 1983 at around 50%, after which it dell significantly to 35% in 2003. A similar change can be seen in the 25–34 age group, which dropped from approximately 20% to 12% over the same period.
On the other hand, the percentage of people aged 55 and over increased sigficantly, rising from 16% in 1983 to 26% in 2003. Likewise, the figure for visitors aged 0–15 showed a slight growth, growing from 10% to 12% during the period. Additionally, a new age group, 16–24, appeared in the 2003, representing 15% of all the visitors.
