Overall, there were increases in the percentage of the 55 over, 0-15, 16-24 age groups, except for people aged 35-54 and 25-34. Notably, the 35-54 age group were by far the most popular travelling to Spain.
Regarding visitors aged 35 over, British aged 35-54 years were the top group in 1983, at 50%, which was higher than the 55+ age group, at 16%. In 2003, a contrast trend was seen in the figures for people aged 35-54 and 55+. To be more precise, while the rate of travellers aged 35-54 visiting Spain decreased sharply to 35%, the figure for 55+ years increased to 26%. Additionally, the pecking order of the 35-54 age group remained unchanged during the period.
In terms of the under 34 age groups, visitors aged 25-34 years were the leading group, at 20% in 1983, followed by the 0-15 age group and 16-24 age group, at 10% and 4%, respectively. Over the following 20 years, the percentage of people aged 16-24, 0-15 witnessed a rise, with visitors aged 16-24 soaring more than triple to 15% and people aged 0-15 increased slightly to 12%. By contrast, the figure for the 25-34 group decreased significantly to 12%, being surpassed by people aged 16-24 and 55+.
