The table shows statistics about number of local and international research students, and pie chart illustrates the percentages of males and females in Australian universities.
According to the table, in 2001 significant number of researchers were local, with 33,657 people, while international were 5,192. In 2010, number of researchers overtook 54 thousand people. International researchers increased, and reached 14.593, while local research students saw 39.488.
Turning to the pie chart, it is evident that 87% of students were local with 43% females and 44% males. The rest of students were international with 9% male and 4% female in total in 2001. The second graph shows in 2010 number of international students significantly rose and reached to 27%, which divided to 12% men and 15% women. Despite of increasing number of local research students their proportion decreased to 73%, with 35% females and 38% males.
Overall, in 2001 number of local males and females were approximately same, however in international students this was different, there were twice as many men as women. During this period that situation not changed in local students, in contrast, female students outnumbered male ones in international students.
