Overall, the percentage of car usage in UK rose over the given period. The ownership proportion of 2 cars has the upward trend, while rates for the households without a car declined.
In 1971, nearly 50% of households has no car, however this rate dropped to close to 25% at the end of the period. One car ownership is the second most chosen option by nearly 45% and it experienced stability over the years.
On the other hand, less than 10% of the owners has two or more cars till the year 1979. The proportion of two cars owners saw a gradual increase from this year to 2007, reaching approximately 25%. Nevertheless, households with three or more cars experienced a percentage up to one in ten with a slight rise by the year 2007.
