The pie charts compare the distribution of total energy consumption among five categories in 1985, 1995 and 2005, with the figures expressed as percentages.
Overall, nuclear accounted for the largest share in 1985 and oil became the dominant category by 1995, while in 2005, both oil and nuclear represented the largest proportions. In general, the proportions of gas and natural gas increased, whereas renewable energy lost a considerable share.
In 1985, nuclear represented 31% of the total, compared with 25% for oil. By 1995, however, the share of oil had risen to 30%, allowing it to overtake nuclear, whose proportion fell to 25%. In contrast, in 2005, both categories recorded 25%.
As for remaining categories, gas increased from 9% to 14%, while natural gas experienced a smaller rise of three percentage points. In contrast, renewable energy declined from 27% to 18%.
