The two pie charts illustrate the proportion of online sales for four retail sectors in Canada in 2005 and 2010. Overall, it is clear that while food & beverage and electronics & appliances declined over the period, the proportion of purchased related to video games, particularly home furnishings rose.
In 2003, electronics & appliances accounted for the largest share of online sales, representing 35%. Home furnishings followed closely behind, making up just over a quarter (25%) with the percentage was nearly the same as food & beverage purchased (23%). By contrast, video games were considerably less popular, at 19%.
Subsequently, five years later, the situatuon had changed significantly. Food & beverage experienced an increased, with a dominant percentage of 32%. While the share of electronics and appliances decreased slightly to 30%. Followed by video games made up a notable proportion about 23%. On the other hand, sales of home furnishings saw the most dramatic declined, decreasing from 25% to 15%.
