Dear Sarah,
I hope all is fine. I heard from Susan that you are planning to spend a year abroad for your studies; therefore, I decided to write to share my own experience with you.
As Susan might have told you, while I was studying medicine in Iran, I decided to apply for an additional pathology course in USA, considering my personal interests and my desire to pursue pathology as my future career. Fortunately, I was accepted at Harvard University and studied there from October 2023 to December 2024.
Apart from a fascinating educational opportunity that Harvard provided, I learned a lot about USA while living there. Boston itself has a pretty rich historical background, and I could learn about that by visiting a couple of well-known museums there. Furthermore, since it is a very hospitable city to immigrants, you are encountered with a great cultural diversity and can get familiar with them by socializing.
I believe that one year in Harvard was an exceptional experience for me, because I had the chance to study in one of the top-ranked universities in the field of pathology. I could also build many connections and receive recommendation letters from experts, which will definitely help me with my future applications. Moreover, I learned multiple novel laboratory techniques and gained some hands-on experience in small animal surgery which is one of the requirements of clinical pathology.
I hope that my experience will be helpful. Please feel free to contact me if you need any further information. I would be pleased to help.
All the best,
Parisa
