Dear Ananya,
How are you? I hope you are doing well! It’s been a year since we last caught up. I’m really thrilled to hear that you’re thinking about spending a year studying abroad. I did this recently as part of my university course, and it turned out to be one of the most valuable experiences of my university life.
I spent a year in Vancouver, Canada, where I studied Mechanical Engineering at a local university. My course mainly focused on design principles, material properties, and sustainable energy. The teaching style was quite different from my country, as classes were more interactive and focused on group discussions , presentations, and independent research, which made learning more engaging. Pupils were also encouraged to share their opinions freely.
During my stay, I learnt a lot about the country and its culture. Canadians are very friendly, polite, open minded, and welcoming, and they value a healthy work-life balance. I was also impressed by how seriously people care about nature and the environment. Living there helped me become more independent as I had to manage my studies, accommodation, and daily expenses on my own.
My year abroad was extremely for my studies. It improved my academic English, especially my writing and prersentation skills, and gave me a more global perspective on my subject. I was able to apply my theoretical knowledge to real life situations and gain hands-on experience, which strenghtened my research and problem solving skills.
I would definitely recommend studying abroad if you get the opportunity. Let me know if you would like to ask anything specific.
Warm wishes,
Charn
