The given maps illustrate the transformations that Happy Valley Shopping Center underwent over a thirty-year period from 1982 to 2012.
In general, it is apparent that there was an expasion of the shopping center’s commercial area to meet the increasing demand of the residents. More amenities were set up with the removal of a lake, along with the appearance of a car park.
Regarding the commercial area, the building was extended to the west, where a lake was replaced by a newly added furniture retail. In addition, the lobby area adjacent to the entrance and the coffee shop in the north-western corner of the building were removed. While the entertainment area still existed, the food store was replaced by two stores called sports and electronics, which were demolished to make way for themed restaurants and two other stores. The food store was relocated to the point where furniture store once stood. The east side of the building also experienced an expansion with the row of trees outside the building being cut down.
Another interesting development is the introduction of a spacious parking lot leading directly to the entrance of the building, along with the disappearance of some plants and a long path. The main entrance was kept in its initial location and the lines of tree surrounding the shopping center remained largely unchanged.
