These pie charts illustrate different modes of transport such as bus, bicycle, train, car, walking, people used to commute to university for work or study throughout 2004 and 2009 in the UK.
It is apparent, that in both years car and bus accounted for over half of all modes of transports, while other methods were the least used. There was only a very minimal increase in walking and train, whereas bicycle almost doubled.
Comparing 2004 and 2009, we can see that most popular mode of transportation in 2004 was car, accounting for 51% of people, while the bus was only 33%. The bicycle accounted for only 9%, however the train and walk were least popular options with 3% and 4% respectively. In 2009, the situation has changed significantly, the bus became the main type of transport, accounting for 46%. Meanwhile, the number of people who used the car significantly decreased from 51% to 28%. The number of people who preferred to ride by bicycle almost doubled from 9% to 16%. Number of people who used trains remained almost unchanged increased only by 1 %, while walking increased to 6%
