Band 7+: 1. Children are facing more pressures nowadays from academic, social and commercial perspectives. What are the causes of these pressures and what measures should be taken to reduce these pressures?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

There is a standpoint that children are confronted with a greater amount of stress originating from academic, social, and commercial spheres in this day and age. The aim of this essay is to present underlying justifications behind this phenomenon and propose some practical measures to tackle this undesirable issue.

To begin with, there are several reasons contributing to this incident. Firstly, the increasing pressure on the youth could be credited to the competitiveness within academic institutions. For instance, the intense competition for admission to renowned universities has resulted in a state of “hyper-competitiveness” among students. Secondly, children face considerable stress due to the increased influence of social media and peer pressure on their social lives. Specifically, the progress of social media has enabled children to exhibit expensive products gifted by their parents, leading to envy among kids who aim to possess such items as a means of keeping up with their peers; therefore leading to luxurious lifestyles and potentially criminal behavior among teenagers.

In my view, there are a number of actions that could be taken to tackle this issue. One possible suggestion is that school systems should focus on holistic education rather than solely academic performance. To be specific, educational institutions should prioritize encouraging creativity, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence in children instead of just focusing on grades. Additionally, guidance and encouragement from parents are essential in enabling children to understand and handle stress arising from social media. For example, advice on how to identify and steer clear of stress-inducing content or harmful websites can be imparted by parents to their children, thereby reducing the harmful and unwanted impacts of social media on youngsters.

In conclusion, the competitive academic environment, the progress of social media, and peer pressure could be ascribed to the fact that modern-day youngsters are coping with more pressure from academic and social viewpoints, and I personally believe that a change in school systems and guidance from parents could be reasonable measures for this issue.
