TV shows and films are believed to have a negative impact on young people since many of them contain violent scenes leading to an increase in the number of offences committed by youngsters. I agree with this statement because teenagers usually feel that they are lack of attention and want to express themselves by imitating their favourite screen characters. To reduce the effect the government should set a censorship on TV.
There are two main reasons why TV shows affect young people’s behaviour. First, they think that they are lack of attention and by imitating their favourite characters on the screen they start acting weird. For instance, after watching a movie with lots of scenes containing cruelty, they act similarly. As a result, those actions are often against the law since they can unintentionally commit some crime in order to gain popularity among friends. Furthermore, since they are surrounded with numbers of rules both at home and in their educational institutions they want to rebel against the system. They see the main characters misbehaving by sometimes breaking the laws. For example, after the release the film called “Slovo patsana” many youngsters in Uzbekistan started committing crime as they wanted to act like their favourite heroes. Consequently, a lot of people suffered due to this misbehaviour.
To tackle the problem government should take action. If they set censorship on what can be shown on TV, they will be able to reduce the amount of violence among teenagers. Not only will this have a positive impact on youngsters’ behaviour, but also will help to nurture some good manners. In Uzbekistan, for example, scenes containing smoking or drinking alcohol are blurred by TV channels since there is a strict restriction related to inappropriate behaviour that can have a negative impact on young people. As a result, the number of smokers in the country has decreased dramatically.
In conclusion, self-expression and feeling of loneliness are among main reasons why youngsters imitate violent actions. To solve the issue authorities should set some limits on what ought to be shown on the blue screen.
