Many places in the world are dependent on tourism since its people consider tourism as their money-making avenue. However, if not controlled properly, tourism can create issues for the country. Evidence has shown the positive and negative impacts of this notion. With further elaboration as explained in this essay, it can be stated that the drawbacks of this notion did not outweigh its benefits.
Tourism can stream a lot of revenue at certain times, such as during peak seasons. Coastal cities with its beautiful beaches and uphill locations with many of its tourist spots will attract a lot of visitors during the holidays. Areas that have gone viral from the past few months in social media will also invite many sightseers, as the place became more popular along with the traffic flow of the tourists. Therefore, travelers will have to spend their budgets on foods, accommodation, souvenirs, and entertainment due to their activities. Through this phenomenon, earnings come in large quantities for the country.
However, the drawbacks of vacation is that it is a business that runs ideally on certain time only. For example, not many people want to go on a holiday during the rainy season because most consider it as ‘a waste of money’ and they would rather go on other times where the weather will be sunnier. Most tourists also do not want to experience a holiday when their destination is threatening, like when the country is under a pandemic era or went through a war. Thus, it is reasonable to say that authorities should not depend their source of main income on tourism alone, since it is an unreliable business.
Therefore, it can be concluded that despite having its own drawbacks, the benefit of tourism business can be utilized by the government, even though tourism is a seasonal enterprise, but if managed correctly, than it can be manifested into a valuable savings of a country, that can be used as an emergency fund if the world undergo any emergency ahead, like the pandemics.
