The inclusion of advertisements has sparked considerable debate in recent years. People hold divergent views about whether people are highly susceptible to advertisements to buy useless items or not. From my perspective, while this trend potentially affect one’s decision in buying products, I concede that the public nowadays are more and more aware of things should be bought to maximise their uses.
On the one hand, it is undeniable that advertising, to some extent, encourages individuals to buy unnecessary things. This is because the ultimate goal of advertisements is to get people to purchase products with the aim of gaining profit. For instance, institutions will do everything in their power, including exaggerating the effectiveness of items in order to convince people to afford them without paying attention to their genuine uses and the demands of consumers. Moreover, companies, which sell non-innovative or expensive products, have a tendency to advertise an in vogue lifestyle associated with the products, thus coaxing people into buying unnecessary items.
On the other hand, I firmly believe that people, especially the young generation, are not easily affected by advertising. This can be exemplified by the fact that a majority of the public has been misled by the given information about certain services, leading to disappointed and unsatisfying experiences. Therefore, consumers are increasingly becoming educated and aware of what should be purchased, depending on the alternative sources of information in lieu of relying entirely on advertisements. For example, when individuals encounter a product accompanied by useful features, instead of buying it immediately, they are likely to read reviews of previous experiencers to make an informed decision whether to buy it or not.
In conclusion, while it is understandable that people are potentially convinced to purchase a product through advertisements, I advocate that consumers in recent years are becoming more careful in deciding whether to buy an item based on other resources, hence ensuring a satisfying experience they will have with that product.
