During the past decade a trend of students taking a gap between an education and spending the time for traveling or work experience has increased. Although break in education can boost a personal or professional growth of an individual, the approach has also some disdvantages associated with it, such as a risk of student not completing his/her course. This essay will demonstrate how taking a gap before joining university has its perks while acknowleding a fact that there are drawbacks associated with this move. The essay will argue that advantages for taking study breaks outweigh disadvatages.

It has been proved that an individual learns more from practicle experience than from a theoraticle books or lectures. Hence, opting for a break before university studies are beneficial, if the time is spent on ganing a practicle knowledge in terms of work or even traveling abroad to learn different skills. This obtained practicle knowledge can be very useful when an individual joins back the academics and learns the related theory details to perfect his skills. For Instance, the importance of practicle knowledge has been recognised by many good universities worldwide, thus most of these universities give preferences to candidates having past work experience for enrolling into their courses especially professional courses.

On the other hand, taking breaks from studies posses its own set of challenges such as a risk of an individual never returning back to academics. As student start earning money and having fun, he may get too engrossed or addicted to his new environment that study might become an hard task to achieve. As a result, pupil can decide never to go back to university studies, which inturn can hamper his future growth.

To conclude, eventhough there is a risk of permenant study break attched to taking gap approach, there are people in the past & present, who have achieved tremendous success through gap work model. Hence positives aspects outweigh the negative restrictions.
