It is undeniable that all parents strive to provide their children with the resources they need to succeed in life. Some individuals believe that children should be taught practical life skills in schools, while others argue that a broad curriculum of subjects is more beneficial for children. This essay will explore both viewpoints and present my opinion.
On one hand, one of the most compelling reasons for teaching practical skills is that it helps children develop into better members of society. In educational institutions, teachers often encourage students to engage in group activities, such as sports and extracurricular events. By collaborating in groups, children acquire various skills, including communication, problem-solving, and leadership. These abilities are essential for them to become responsible citizens. Additionally, during job interviews, candidates’ confidence is assessed, and schools provide opportunities for children to build this confidence through presentations and public speaking in front of their peers and teachers. Consequently, these skills are crucial for children’s development.
On the other hand, there are significant arguments in favor of incorporating a wide range of subjects into the curriculum for children’s future. First and foremost, many professions require a solid foundation of theoretical knowledge. For instance, to become a doctor, one must understand human anatomy and its functions. Therefore, children must focus on academic subjects to succeed in such careers. Furthermore, subjects like computer science and general knowledge equip children with information that will benefit them throughout their lives. Hence, it is essential to teach these subjects.
From the discussions above, it is clear that both practical skills and academic subjects contribute to a child’s future success. However, in my opinion, practical skills hold greater importance than traditional subjects.
