Nowadays, with the development of urban planning, many public parks have been replaced by high-rise buildings for residents. Although this trend brings several benefits, I contend that the drawbacks outweigh its advantages for some reasons elaborated in this essay.
To begin with, in fact, as more and more people are residing to cities for better living qualities and job opportunities, the tendency of constructing more residential complexes instead of public parks can definitely cope the living demand of rapid population increase. Thus, find temporary houses in cities is not a huge concern for individuals anymore, allowing them to focus on seeking jobs and set aside time to improve their living qualities such as following a dream. Besides, building more high-rise complexes can ultimately boost the image of a country thanks to modernization, which proves that the country is wealthy and strong enough to renovate and develop much more strongly and clearly.
However, more residential buildings being constructed means the cost of living is also rising significantly, creating more financial challenges for people living in urban areas. Another worth noting point is that a lack of greenery and public spaces can discourage people from being close to nature. Individuals will be surrounded by a concrete jungle, and there will be no rooms for plants, which possibly exacerbates health issues related to emotions. Moreover, public parks usually serve as places to create a sense of community through different activities among people; if they are all destroyed, citizens will have fewer chances to interact with their neighbours, hence reducing human connection in urban areas
In conclusion, while the trend of replacing public parks with modern high-rise residential buildings can bring some advantages, its disadvantages are outweighed for the reasons of higher cost of living and lack of connection to nature and people.
