Obesity has become a big health issue around the globe. The main cause for this is a sedentary lifestyle. However, the proposed solution for this would be government-initiated awareness campaigns.
Inactive lifestyle is one of the major causes for becoming overweight. This is because our body needs certain kind of physical activity and movement to promote metabolism and burning of calories. Therefore, healthcare professionals recommend at least 30 minutes of daily exercise to maintain the body weight within a normal range. However, immobility disturbs this metabolic activity very badly, resulting in deposition of fats in our body. This deposited fat is the hallmark of obesity. For example, A research from the University of Cambridge, has shown that inactive lifestyle can increase the chances for obesity by 40%.
This problem can be overcome by educating people about the negative consequences of obesity, through awareness campaigns organized by the government. The government should give a major attention to this issue and must plan different awareness programs at the schools, universities and hospitals. In addition, the digital media must be involved to highlight this issue as maximum as possible. Therefore, people will be aware of this alarming issue and can make significant changes in their daily routines. For instance, in Texas, the government funded awareness program about obesity had significantly declined the reported cases of obesity by 27% in 2009.
In Conclusion, being fat has become a major problem in healthcare. The major contributing factor for this is inactivity. However, the government aided awareness programs can effectively address this issue.
