Band 5+: Countries are becoming more and more similar because people are able to buy the same products anywhere in the world. Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Growing similarity among countries due to the similarity products worldwide lead to positive and negative consequences. Although a number of people believe that this trend contributes to decrease the price of products, in my opinion this develop leads to loss of cultural diversity.

Some people believe that the more products become available, the more access that people can have. This phenomenon help people to access every products from whenever they want. In addition individuals can enjoy the same menu items globally. For instance, they can purchase McDonald’s and Starbucks from Los Angeles to London. To put it in other words, this trend lead to the homogenize the items, so price is reduced due to participating of more seller and availability of products.

While the proponents of the view believe that standardization of products lead to favorable implications, in my view, this homogenization contributes to loss cultural diversity. To be more specific, every country or even every city is popular for special style and local delicacy which they are preserved from past religious. However, resemblance between countries destroy the culture because people utilize same products. Furthermore, people cannot attract tourist by using the style that individuals wear clothes, by advertising popular food, or even by introducing their cultures, thus this phenomenon result in declining the trade between countries.

In conclusion, although the number of people believe that similarity of products among countries contributes to greater access to product at any given location and controlling the prices of the items, I believe that it has result in losing cultural diversity and reducing trade.
