High schooler having a part-time job is a sensitive issue that needs to be addressed. While there are various prons of having a part-time job, I believe the cons must be considered as well. In my own opinion, I believe part-time job can cause more harm than good to secondary school students.
There are various benefits associated with teenagers having a part-time job. Firstly, they provide for themselves and family financially. For example, a boy from a poor background who has the zeal to be educated must take up a part-time job I order to provide for his basic needs and also for the family. Secondly, having a side hustle promte self-confidence, enhance skills and help to gain more work experience which will impress an employer. For instance, two people applied to an organisation for the same position, one with enough work experience and the other with no work experience. Based on my own judgement, the person with enough work experience will be considered because they believe he or she will be more productive.
On the other hand , there are several drawbacks that can affect a teenager who engage in part-time jobs. This can lead to loss of concentration in class because of the motive to make money. The academic performance of such student will be affected due to lack of focus. When the situation is no longer manageable, teenager might have to consider dropping out of school and this is detrimental to their future. For instance , imagine a 12 year old boy preferred hawking to learning because he has been exposed to making money and finding it difficult to stop.
In conclusion, high schoolers should not be exposed to having a part-time job because the drawbacks outweigh it benefits.
