Band 6+: Employment should give their staff at least a 4-week holiday a year to make employees better at their jobs. To what extend do you agree or disagree?

n recent times, opinions differ on whether employers should provide their staff with one-month holiday vacations on a annual basis or not. Some claim that by doing so, their work productivity may be enhanced significantly. From my standpoint, I partially agree with this activity as I believe that it can generate tremendous benefits but it can also be detrimental to some extent.

On the one hand, it stands to reason that managers should offer 4-week holiday for their employees. This is owing to the fact that if given such rest periods, staff members can have chances to unwind after a long period of hard work, thereby being able to relieve high stress in workplace and recharge batteries. This could translate into their improved work efficiency. Besides, holidays might act as a strong incentive for employees to perform harder and also help to retain existing workforce. For example, an IT developer who has to endure physical and mental stress continously wants to change his career. However, providing him with getaways is likely to help keep him employed. Not only does these benefits help to promote his loyalty to the company but they also motive him to redouble his efforts in working, hence enhancing the overall productivity of the company.

Nonetheless, this line of reasoning is not sound since it fails to factor in the negative ramifications of 4-week holiday. Firstly, if employers allow their staff members to have 28 days off during the key stages of economy, it can lead to slow-paced development and corporate crises. For example, if the manager of a business specializing in rice trade grants employees a total of 4 weeks of leave during the rice harvest season, the company might experience a period of declined profits which potentially results in the bankruptcy. Another reason why I believe this approach may be disadvantageous is that 4 weeks of vacation is overlong. Imagine a accountant taking just one day off from work, which could considerably disrupt the company’s operations. For this reason, to provide staff with 28 days off is to pose a high risk of jeopardizing the stability of the company and possible downfall.

All things considered, despite tremendous advantages that a 4-week holiday can bring, it is likely to cause certain drawbacks. I assert that one or two weeks on an annual basis is satisfactory for both the company and the employees.
