To improve employee performance at work, the employers should provide at least four weeks of vacation per year. I completely disagree with this statement for two reasons. For one thing, extended vacation may negatively affect the productivity for the person taking them upon their return to work and, for another, it may result in burnout for their colleagues who have to cover for him/her in their absent.
While taking a brief vacation can boost and improve a person morale and energy which is a good thing obviously but, taking an extended vacation can negatively impact their productivity by reducing it which can be especially true when their work required a constant use and improve of hand skills for example or technical skills like software engineering. Also, when their work required them to be up to date with last technology in their field.
Taking a lengthy leave can also impact negatively on their colleagues which have to cover in their absent and do the work of the person taking vacation and that may lead them burnout because now they have more work to do and, if more people taking an extended vacation, it can affect the company productivity especially if the company is short on staff to begin with.
In conclusion, taking a long absence from work by employee in my opinion can not only affect them by reducing their productivity but also can affect their colleagues who have to cover for them during their absent and may also affect the company they are working for.
