Band 7+: Fewer students are choosing science subject in school and university. Reasons and implications on society

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Science subjects have been of great concern in recent years. There is a considerable body of opinion which holds that a lack of students is choosing science at university. In this essay, I will attempt to give reasons and point out the impact of this problem.

Nowadays, the fact is that science subjects are very difficult for students to study. With this in mind, most students today are afraid to make a decision to study science at university.

The other major reason is that when students choose to study science at university, they need to spend a large amount of their time conducting scientific research and reviewing scientific literature to have a solid academic basis to study effectively. The huge amount of data makes them feel stressed and tired about choosing science at university. Otherwise, the traditional method of learning and teaching is not likely to attract students to choose science at university because it is boring and lacks chances for students to do scientific experiments. This leads to the fact that students nowadays find science difficult to study at university.

On the one hand, what draws much of my attention is the development of technology and science. It is noticeable that when students do not choose science at university, there will be a shortage of scientists in the future. On account of this, a shortage of scientists could slow down technological development, as fewer experts would be available to conduct research and stimulate innovative technologies. In the event of this, it may make it more difficult to address global challenges, including climate change and melting glaciers. As a consequence, a lack of scientists tends to negatively affect economic growth because high-tech industries may struggle to develop new products and improve productivity. Furthermore, an insufficient number of scientists are able to delay medical breakthroughs, making it harder for people to access advanced treatments and have the potential to increase risk of disease sufferers in society. Moreover, when society has insufficient technology, it may put pressure on employment in all sectors; people need to pay more for services and technical equipment. In fact, the negative outcomes result from a lack of students choosing science at university.

In summary, all points mentioned are my discussion about a lack of students choosing science at university. It is highly recommended that adults and students should take my writing into great consideration to make better decisions on choosing science at university
