In our contemporary society, it is believed that marine conservation should be regarded as a top priority by international governments in place of space exploration. From my perspective, both areas should be addressed equally given their highly significant roles in human development.
On the one hand, the reason why marine conservation deserves increasing investment from the governments is due to the fact that about 70% of the Earth is covered by the ocean, thus highlighting the importance of protecting the ocean. First and foremost, the ecosystem is heavily reliant on the ocean, meaning that the survival of a significant number of living species would be severely affected unless the protection for the sea was offered. For example, provided that the destruction of marine lives was not prevented, many sea creatures would become extinct, leading to loss of biodiversity and devastating effects on the food chains. Furthermore, the ocean plays a vital role in curbing the impacts of climate change, which is one of the most pressing environmental issues that all governments are facing. As a result, not only can funding the ocean conservation maintain the sea lives but also considerably reduce the influence of global warming on human population.
On the other hand, exploring space should also be taken into consideration. Firstly, investment in the space field can allow countries to develop space technology more efficiently, including making satellites more accessible and effective. In fact, the enhancement in satellite technology may facilitate global communication, which holds an integral part in almost every aspect of today’s human life. Therefore, space exploration can contribute to the overall economic development, improving living conditions substantially. Moreover, space travel can open up a multitude of opportunities, especially in terms of searching for the solutions to mitigate resource scarcity, which has remained an enormous issue for recent decades. For instance, some essential natural resources, such as titanium and silicon, could be found on the moon, emerging as a feasible measure in the near future.
In conclusion, due to the importance of both areas, it is necessary for the governments to allocate their resources reasonably, ensuring that they should strike a balanced approach. While marine conservation can maintain the ecosystem and alleviate climate change, space exploration is crucial to support humans to step forward and handle the existing problem of lacking resources.
