Over the last half-century, the government has faced the issue of preventing crime and actions have been taken to address the problem. Main measures to reduce crime rates include the threat of punishment and improving living standards, with the latter being more effective in solving this complicated task. I strongly believe that the method of improving living standards is the best way to prevent offences.
Above all, tackling the issue of crime prevention cannot be discussed without changing society. Nowadays, the most common causes of crime are poverty, a lack of abilities and peer pressure. First of all, it will not have a huge impact if we modernize punishment rather than create special programs to help people in difficult situations, because this will not solve the problem. Second of all, creating special programs will help fight poverty. In particular, improving living standards can lead to a reduction in the causes of crime and a change in criminal lifestyles.
While the method of improving standards of living is relevant, there are difficulties connected with improving living standards. It will not be easy to finance each family and provide it with all needs. This approach will ruin the economic situation and lead to resource-related problems. Moreover, such method could be worthless because there is no guarantee that people will stop committing offenses.
In conclusion, even though it may be difficult, the most effective way to reduce crime rates is to improve living standards in order to remove people’s reasons for committing crimes.
