In recent years, food waste has become a global problem. There could be two main reasons for this phenomenon, but the issue can be mitigated by several important steps.
One of these major reasons can be attributed to a large number of restaurants in present day. It can be observed that too many restaurants and cafes are opened not only in cities, but also in rural areas. Because of international well-known brand restaurants, other small businesses fail to gain attention of consumers, which is the situation that leads to the waste of food cooked in those cafes. Furthermore, overproduction of unhealthy snacks, such as chips and free fries, might be another main cause. Nowadays, not only children, but also adults gravitate towards this kind of unhealthy products. Special chemicals used in these products block appetite and therefore, make people ignore healthy food made at home, leading to waste food.
Fortunately, this problem can be tackled by applying vital measures. First and foremost, in my opinion, governments should put a limit on food industry of unhealthy snacks. Instead, they must be replaced by products prepared by vegetables or fruits, which improve appetite. Also, strategies to teach people the benefits of healthy food and the potential threat that might be posed by the large amount of food waste should be implemented. Broadcasting the awful situation in African countries that lack food and water on televison and social platforms might encourage people to appreciate the food in their homes and try to reduce waste.
In conclusion, the problem of wasted food in countries is reaching epidemic proportions. However, significant decline in percentages of waste can be achieved through essential measures.
