In this contemporary society, there has been an increase in life expectancy due to advancements in medicine. While there are some benefits, such as more older people who can guide younger generations, there are also some negatives, such as the high cost of healthcare when they become ill. In this essay, I will highlight both the upsides and downsides of this trend and present my personal view.
Owing to recent developments in medical technology and science, many scientists have found new medicines that lead to longer life. The main advantage of increased life expectancy is that there will be more elderly people in society. These senior citizens can be ideal mentors for young people because they have already faced the challenges of the world ahead of the younger generation. Thus, they have more experiences and knowledge that can be passed on to the young people when they encounter difficulties. The more elderly people, the more young people can enjoy a better life.
Despite the advantages, there are some disadvantages associated with increased life expectancy. When there are many elderly people, they can pose problems for society. Since senior citizens could no longer work and earn money, they become a burden on their families. Additionally, as the elderly people are more likely to be prone to illness, it will consume a significant amount of money when they get sick.
In conclusion, increased life expectancy has both upsides and downsides for society. Although there are more elder people who can be the best advisors for the young people, these people can also bring some issues to society. In my opinion, as young generations can learn from the older people, young people are more likely to enjoy a better life.
