Nowadays, in many countries, more and more shops are staying open for long hours. Although this trend has a few drawbacks, it is clear that is favorable improvement as it is more comfortable for buyers and creates more job opportunities and boost the financial system by growing sales.
In my point of view, it has its own positive and negative developments for people, the shoppers and local community. Firstly, when it comes to benefits for customers. It’s more convenience for busy people; they can shop after work or school and reduces overcrowding during peak hours because emergency purchases are possible at night. With regarding to advantages for the economy; higher sales and profits for businesses, more job opportunities due to extra shifts, boosts economic activity and consumer spending and also decreasing unemployment.
Another important point is that disadvantages. Impact on workers for instance, longer working hours can cause stress and fatigue, less time for family and rest, poor work life balance and a lot of stress and depression. Furthermore, higher electricity and operating costs have a bad impact on society and businesses. In addition, small businesses may struggle to complete with large supermarkets. As a result, increasing energy consumption can harm the environment.
In conclusion, although keeping shops open for longer hours has some drawbacks, such as increased pressure on employees, rose operating costs outweigh the benefits. I believe it is an overall optimistic advancement owning to the fact that it provides greater comfort for clients and contributes to economic growth.
