Crime novels and TV crime dramas are becoming more common in many countries these days. This essay believes it is popular because of the generation of youth we have and this might be a bad development because it spreads negativity around.
To begin, we are in the season where generation Z are becoming the young adults. These people believe in violence and absurd ideas like cybercrime. As a result of this, they are curious and want to know more about crimes so they search for novels and TV shows that promotes them. Since the writers and anchors of TV programs know their target audience, they start to produce more of what they believe will sell; that is criminal contents. For instance, a popular channel that started losing its viewers, in fact everyone was expecting it to close down, however he suddenly started showing movies with scary storyline. The owner said in an interview that these films gave him twice the number of his original viewers. The same applies to book sellers and authors.
Furthermore, this is a negative development because the readers and watchers begin to have bad imaginations. Some might go as far as experimenting what they have read or watched and this puts the society at risk. For example, a neighbour killed her husband some weeks ago. When she was interrogated, she claimed she watched something similar in a movie where the wife did the same after an argument. It shows the degree to which people practice what they see. Additionally, it pollutes the mind of the younger generation, making them believe criminal acts are normal. Some infants start becoming violent to their friends in school.
In conclusion, curiosity has made the youths of various countries to dig into movies and books that are about lawbreaking. They have become more popular than they were few years back. This development has more drawbacks than advantages. The drawbacks include spreading negative imagination among the youth who sometimes go as far as experimenting what they have watched. Also, some kids see this and start practicing it on their friends.
