Nowadays, in many nations, retail bookstores have been closing down because online reading platforms are becoming more significant. In my opinion, there are several merits of this trend, but there are also few demerits of this trend too. This essay will provide reasonable arguments for my perspective.
To begin with, the single disadvantage of this trend is that it hampers revenue of traditional bookstores. E-books are generally cheaper than physical book, so it will decrease the demand of traditional books. As a result, these stores may run out of business and there will be less physical places where readers can buy books.
However, there are far more advantages to this trend. The first and foremost is that it makes reading more convenient. A person can download thousands of book in their device, whereas in traditional way it is not possible, a individual cannot carry these many books. Therefore, people can read as many books as they want, with their convenience. For example, in online platform readers can find all kinds of books, so they can easily read what they want to read.
Secondly, e-materials make reading more accessible. Online resources are generally cheaper than traditional ones or free, so more people can read book. So underprivileged pupils who do not have financial resources can also read content they want. Thus, it leads to increase in book readership. For instance, students have to buy many study materials for their academics, but currently, they can use online resources instead of physical ones, so they can save their expenses.
In conclusion, although this trend may mitigate the revenue of traditional shops, I firmly believe its advantages such as making reading more convenient and accessible, outweigh its disadvantages.
