As society gets busier day by day has led to the widespread availability of international fast food, which has replaced traditional foods. While this phenomenon has some advantages, I believe that there are also some drawbacks related to this.
On the one hand, families and society can reap benefits from the popularity of fast food. Firstly, the more fast food outlets gain their fame, the more job opportunities are created to meet the demand of consumers and support economic growth, as global food chains invest in local markets. For instance, the global chains like McDonald’s and KFC employ thousands of staff in developing countries, offering positions such as cashiers, cooks, and delivery drivers. Secondly, thanks to its convenience and affordability, fast food can be highly appealing to those who have a hectic schedule.
On the other hand, having access to a huge amount of fast food can bring many disadvantages for both consumers and a country. On top of that, human health is severely damaged by fast food, which is unhealthy, high in fat, sugar, and can lead to many diseases like obesity, high blood pressure, or heart disease. Besides that, while traditional meals often create a family atmosphere, conversely, fast food encourages a busy lifestyle, leading people to isolate themselves from their fellow man. Furthermore, traditional food is regarded as a key part of the national culture, so the increasing popularity of international fast food may lead to the fading away of a country’s identification, particularly among younger generations who are more exposed to global trends.
In conclusion, while there are some correlations between fast food and benefits to job opportunities and busy people, I still firmly believe that other downsides like unhealthy, encourage a busy lifestyle, and loss of the nation’s identity are more concerning to cope with.
