Teenagehood is a crucial period of time in every individual’s life, as it is full of new experiences, feelings and life lessons, resembling a rollercoaster. Every adolescent needs to have a kind of supporter by their side, in order to give some advice or appreciation throughout this harsh but also exciting period. In my opinion, an example of such person could be a parent, although it is important not to cross certain boundaries.
To begin with, the parenting figures should give an appropriate amount of freedom. At this age, youth desire to seek unforgettable adventures, as they will never be this young again. Aged 14-15, being almost legal adults, teenagers need to have the permission to make their own decisions, spend time with friends and occasionally learn from mistakes. This will ensure that they are independent enough and won’t feel imprisoned in their room. Subsequently, the person will grow up self-confident and abstain from behaving childishly.
Nevertheless, parents still ought to interfere in some aspects of their child’s life. While the adolescent’s brain is still developing, they tend to conclude on something by counting only on their emotions or feelings. For instance, they are more likely to let their short temper influence the present situation. In some cases, the young adults may not recognize a threat or danger, and it is the duty of others to help them overcome it.
In conclusion, parents should intervene in the lives of their children carefully, considering their personal space and the right to be a separate human being.
