Different countries offer a couple of ways how school holidays are arranged. Primary and secondary educational institutions offer two or more months in the summer holidays for their students. Longer holidays provide opportunity for psychological and physical rest from the academic year, while shorter ones maintain the interest and motivation to study.
To begin with, academic period is a significant part of each student’s life. Often it leads to some difficulties such as workload, lack of sleep and chronic anxiety. Besides, constant asessment of their level of knowledge from teachers affects their self-esteem as well. In this case, long school holidays is a great opportunity to relax and engage in personal pursuits. There is no schedule which students are forced to follow. Moreover, a lot of time and space appears for their own desires to spare. It is crucial for students to switch to something enjoyable from studying and routine.
When it comes to the advantages of shorter school holidays, I believe that students have more consistent progress and they are less likely to forget the whole learned material. It is essential to have a well-balanced schedule that includes breaks to avoid workload and burnout. Thus, students maintain their interest and motivation for further studying. For instance, my school enables both these varieties of holidays, which I find very comfortable.
In conclusion, long holidays are significant for students as well as short ones. In my point of view, schools should combine both of these ways of arranging holidays for their students to keep interest for study and avoid burnout.
