According to some individuals, competition in the workplace, schools, and everyday situations is beneficial, while others believe that people should focus more on cooperation. Personally, I agree with the former view more for a few reasons.
Admittedly, working cooperatively can improve teamwork and relationships among colleagues. When employees in a large corporation or tutors at school work together, they are more likely to solve complex issue quickly. This is because if people cooperate frequently, they are able to listen to each other’s opinions and express their views more clearly, which could help them reach more effective solutions. As a result, they might make better decisions that can play a crucial role in improving efficiency. Thus, cooperation is essential for achieving success in the workplace and at school.
Nevertheless, competition may push individuals to work harder. The majority of people who compete against each other at work usually become more productive and put in more effort. A competitive environment motivates workers to improve performance and force them to be disciplined. For example, in many organizations, employees often compete for rewards such as bonuses, which encourage them to enhance their skills.
Another reason is that rivalry in the workplace prepares individuals for real-life challenges. If workers are in competition, they are likely to learn how to deal with pressure and failure. Many people believe that they usually experience growth in both their professional and personal lives whenever they face rivalry. This is mainly because they try to outperform their rivals in various areas of work. For instance, someone who works for a well-known marketing company with thousands of employees is less likely to encounter difficulties in this field due to the strong mindset developed through such competition. Hence, professional rivalry is a crucial factor in personal growth.
In conclusion, although some people think that it is better to cooperate rather than compete, I believe that workplace competition can improve performance and productivity in both professional and personal life.
