Nowadays, children opt to spend time with their peers instead of their families. In my opinion, one of the major reasons which lead to the change is the differences between generations and parents should not force children to stay home but welcome this trend as an inevitability.
First of all, the generation gap is real and we have to accept it. There is no way for a person born in the 1970s to have the same mindset as a child born in 2010. Technology has been changing the world so fast, thus creating differences in how people of each era perceive the world. Such differences are the reason why adults nowadays find it difficult to have a talk with their children, preventing them from connecting with their offspring. As children can not form a connection with their parents, they try to reach out to others, someone who has the same interests and understands them well, and that someone is mostly their peers. For example, a child can not start a conversation with his parents about the new triple-A game that he has just got from a Steam sale, but he can brag about it with his friends all day.
So what attitude should parents show toward this trend? Personally, I think that this trend is inevitable due to the exponential speed at which technology is changing our lives. Therefore, parents should respect their children’s emotions and let them freely explore the world besides their friends. Instead of forcing children to do what they do not want, adults should remain liberal and encourage children to share their stories to ensure that they are not involved in illegal deeds. For example, instead of prohibiting their children from hanging out, parents can ask who are their children hanging out with and what they will be doing.
In conclusion, the changes in our lives brought about by the advanced technology result in children spending more time with friends. In my opinion, this result is inevitable and parents should accept it with a liberal mindset.
