Recently, we have observed a growing trend toward utilizing power-enhancing drugs by professional sportsmen. Several negative consequences will be arisen due to such trend, but I believe that governments and other related organizations should consider several steps to cope with this situation.
Multiple side-issues will be engendered due to using illegal power-boosting drugs. Firstly, professional national athletes always wish to make their country proud of them by achieving to great success in their own sport fields. However, it will be a huge shame for the country where the athlete belongs to, when doping test reveals that he has used such drugs. Secondly, his previous achievements will be questioned because doping test’s precision is not 100 percent. Finally, unauthorized drugs can pose serious threats on the health of the athletes. For instance, Beitollah Abbaspour was a famous body builder in Iran who died because of using unauthorized drugs.
Several measures can be taken for managing this situation. Firstly, international sport organizations must impose stricter laws for the athletes who use such drugs. For instance, not only this athlete is not allowed to participate in any formal competition for many years but also he will be taken all of his previous championships. Secondly, access to such drugs should be limited by governments. To this end, governments can make these specific drugs free to use only for the treated purposes. Moreover, they should consider significant penalties for the ones who break this law.
In conclusion, the rise in the power-improving drugs’ use is a concerning pattern that can bring about several negative consequences for athletes. However, governments and international organizations can manage the situation by introducing stricter rules.
