Band 5+: In recent years, there has been a rise in the use of performance-enhancing drugs in sports. What are the consequences of doping for athletes? What measures should be taken to combat this issue?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

One of the most conspicuous trend of todays world is a colossal upsurge in the amount of drugs which are used to enhance performance in sports. Therefore, those who choose to use performance-enhancing drugs will suffer from severe consequences.Hence, I believe that certain measures should be taken in order to address with this prevalence of doping.

Admittedly, the use of drugs in sports has serious effects for sportmen. First and foremost is that people who have intake of some kind of substances which are helpful for them to ameliorate their performance in sports could suffer from fatal effects of health like heart issues. In addition to this, sportman can become addictive to these drugs. Therefore, it can be difficult for them stop using these supplements. For instance, some famous examples of players who have encountered problems related to dietary supplements include football player fernado torres, who experienced severe digestive problems after taking dietary supplements.

However, to combat the increasing use of doping, several measures can be taken. Firstly, testing is the most effective way to discourage the consumption of performance enhancing drugs. As, athletes should be randomly tested before and after each game. Thus, frequent testing increase the risk if getting caught. Which will act as deterrent. Furthermore, athletes who are caught taking drugs, should be banned for life. Thus, this act could be proven worthwhile to make other players to say no to drugs.

To conclude it, no doubt performance enhancing drugs help to boost performance in short term. Whereas, these substances increase the risk of cardiac arrest. Hence, regular screening is the most effective way to discourage doping.
