In some nations, even though the rates of serious crimes are going down, residents feel that their safety is unprecedentedly compromised. In my opinion, the main causes of this problem are the rise of high tech criminals and the lack of regulations from the government on digital platforms. Viable solutions can be using anti virus applications and having the government deploy stricter rules.
The main reason for people’s insecurity nowadays is high tech criminals. With recent technological advancements, not only people’s lives have become easier, but criminals have also found new ways to harm us. These criminals can easily gain access to your personal information via digital platforms such as Facebook or Instagram, where people are mindlessly exposing their personal lives. For example, a Vietnamese actor was kidnapped last year due to previously exposed his address through a selfie on Facebook. Another reason is the loose regulations of the government. As the digital world is changing so fast, politicians are sometimes overwhelmed, thus, leaving holes in their policies which criminals can take advantage of.
So what can we do to solve the problem? One viable approach is to use anti virus applications. These apps not only detect viruses in your computers but also notify you once they find an outside connection to your computer, which might be criminals trying to take away your data. Another way to alleviate the problem is to have stricter rules. With heavier punishment and policies that do not leave any holes for criminals to get through, they will have to think twice before committing a bad deed on digital platforms. To illustrate, the rate of cyber fraud in Vietnam went down by 60% after the country’s government increased the punishment from 5 to 10 years in jail.
In conclusion, people nowadays are feeling insecure more than ever due to the risk of their personal data being stolen by high tech criminals, which can be addressed by using anti virus apps and stricter rules from the government.
