In many nations, children are educated in single-sex schools rather than co-educational schools. In my opinion, the benefits of this trend are overshadowed by its drawbacks.
There are some advantages to this. First, studying in a single-gender school can avoid unwanted situations. Students are able to concentrate better and tend to perform more effectively in group work because coordination among them is easier. Communication between the same gender results in stronger relationships. For instance, in many developed countries, when having group tasks, a team with full of men or women usually works more efficiently than mixed-gender teams, as they tend to focus on work and tasks rather than concerns between gender. Moreover, many research show that boys prefer to cooperate with their same sex than their counterparts.
However, the biggest problems of separating boys and girls into different educational environment is that it prevents boys from communicating with the opposite gender. As teenagers get older, they become more curious about everything. Because of the lack of talking to the girls, boys often go to social platforms to interact online as an alternative solution, which can create a distorted view to women in real life. Furthermore, a lot of male students can hardly understand and empathize with women. As a result, they will face many issues in the future, such as working or cooperating with a group containing women, or having difficulty in love relationship.
In conclusion, I think that the detrimental effects outweigh the merits, as children should be allowed to interact with their opposite genders to form their understanding and respect between each sex early, so they can expand relationships in the future.
