Moving towards the 21st century, with the popularity of fast food, the number of health issues which are caused by that food is becoming more and more increase. Consequently, some individuals argue that government should impose a stronger tax on junk food. From my perspective, I disagree with that opinion as it is not the best way to solve that problem.
On the one hand, imposing a higher tax can decrease the number of people eating junk food. First, due to the convenience of that food, numerous individuals especially busy people choose this kind of food as their main meals. As a result, when the price of fast food is more expensive, they will change their mind to another food. In addtion, junk food has strongly attractive to children since this kind of food is delicious and its flavour is more special than usual food. Therefore, with stronger tax on fast food, their parents will not let them eat that food not only by its value but also its effect on children’s health.
On the other hand, plenty of problems can be caused by imposing a higher tax. Simply put, some busy people will have troublesomes in choosing type of foods to serve for them. For example, with a lot of tasks which have to be finished as soon as possible, employees want to have a meal which is the fastest and the most convenient. They do not spend much time cooking so fast food is the best choice for them and increasing the tax on this food can make employees pay more for that food. Instead of that, children are the most serious group as according to some researchs, the percentage of children eating fast food saw a upward trend in the recent years. Consequently, the most useful way is telling people the harm of junk food and have some policies to limit the amount of junk food inhaled.
In conclusion, even though imposing a higher tax on fast food can bring many benefits for community, I suppose that the best way is helping them know its drawbacks and how to protect their health.
