The number of people who get an ailment by consuming excess fast food in some countries is growing. Some people believe that the authorities should impose a higher tax on this kind of food. However, I would argue that they should not do that because of the affordable prices and the conveniences that fast food brings to our lives.
To begin with, it is an undeniable fact that fast food was born for everyone. This is because of its inexpensive prices. In fact, not only adults consume fast food but also teenagers. For example, it is easy to see workers or students decide to go to the fast food store instead of going to a restaurant, as a result of the low prices.
Furthermore, convenience food is a time-saving. This means that we don’t have to spend many hours on food acquisition, preparation, and cleanup. We are living in a hectic world where people have to work and study a lot so it’s difficult for them to have spare time to cook. For example, workers who have to go to work every day from the early morning to late at night may not have time to prepare their meals or parents who have to spend time taking care of their kids, would select this kind of food, which can help them to reduce the time that they have to spend when they cook.
By way of conclusion, although there are still some negative sides to convenience foods, the amount of people who consume them will not decrease. In my opinion, the government should not impose a higher tax on convenience foods.
