Currently, people tend to live alone as adults more. There are both positive sides and negative sides to living by themselves, but the latter may outweigh the former to some extent.
One positive effect of living alone is that their personal time would be ensured. These days, more people require time alone to enjoy their hobbies or just to relax because they work crowded society. Living alone can be a good way to increase QOL for the people who need the time alone. Another good point could be that it allows people a variety of lifestyles. When people live with others in the same home, it is inevitable that each member would compromise something to make comfortable lives together. However, if they live alone, it is not needed and make himself or herself free. This leads to the independence and may be the most stress-less environment for people.
On the other hand, there are some negative aspects to living their home alone. One of the negatives is the difficulty of keeping healthy lives by themselves. Generally speaking, the lifestyles of adults who live alone are worse than those of people who live in a family or other kind of relationships. They do not care about nutrition or other healthy habits and it may cause some health problems. It is said that more and more adults are suffering from life-related diseases these days that may have some connection with this problem. The further bad point is that the relationships between people may decrease. In fact, the young generation tends to stay home alone on weekends and is less likely to make new relationships or lovers compared with the past generation. It is clearly expressed in the decline of the marriage rate and also the birth rate. The ageing population, which Japan is suffering from, may become more and more severe.
In my opinion, there could be more bad effects of the increase in the number of adults who live alone than good effects although both have some possible reasons. My great-grandmother, who is 96 old, lived alone until she became 90 years old because she regarded herself as healthy and rigorous. However, one day she fainted at home alone and no one noticed that by the time my grandmother visited her after an hour. If my grandmother had not visited her house by chance, she would have not been found by anyone and would have died. If this trend continues and more people become older, such incidents can happen more often and are difficult to prevent. Solitary death may cause several problems in society. Therefore, I suppose that this has more negatives than positives that more people tend to live by themselves.
