In some countries, the figure for children who are taught by their parents instead of going to school has been growing. While this trend has some merits, I would contend that its merits are more significant.
On the one hand, homeschooling brings children some benefits. First of all, studying at home may avoid school pressure. Nowadays, students have suffered from pressure due to parent’s expectations or overloaded homework. This can make them feel tedious and reduce study motivations which lead to undesirable academic outcomes. Therefore, homeschooling is the best choice for children to deter them from having depression. Another benefit of this method is its greater flexibility in scheduling, family’s accommodation, extracurricular activities. For example, some families do not have stable housing because of parent’s work traits. Therefore, studying at home is suitable for children who do not want to integrate into a new environment frequently.
On the other hand, I argue that this parent’s education may have detrimental effects on children especially when they become mature. An apparent disadvantage is that this method can limit the development of children’s social skills. Children who are educated at home may have less opportunities to interact with their peers and others. As a result, they will encounter communication difficulties when they grow up which directly affect children’s future when the demand for communication skills in society are increasing . Another drawback of this education is that it may be challenging for parents when teaching their kids themselves. When children need help with a new science concept or mathematical obstacles, parents must have adequate knowledge and plenty of patience to give them a hand. In addition, some parents do not have pedagogical skills like professional teachers so children may not get the picture of what their parents say in some aspects which can lead to the lack of children’s knowledge.
In conclusion, I suppose that children should go to school instead of studying at home with parent’s education due to the reasons mentioned above.
