These days, many universities have students from all over the country, whether they are from the same city or not. Some people believe that studying in a different city is a good option, while others argue that studying in the city where they live is preferable. This essay will explore both perspectives and present my personal conclusion.
On one hand, a significant number of students currently choose to study at a university in a different city to make new friends and develop independence. For example, although I come from Damanhour City, I attended Alexandria University and resided there for 5 years in a rented accommodation. During this time, I acquired skills such as cooking, cleaning, and interacting with strangers in various situations. I also learned the importance of time management, balancing my studies with other life commitments. Hence, some consider studying away from one’s hometown to be crucial.
On the other hand, studying in the same city where students live is a convenient option as it eliminates the need for additional responsibilities like household chores. Moreover, students do not incur extra expenses for renting a separate place. For instance, when students return home from university each day, they have family members to look after them in case of illness. To illustrate, my fiancée studies in a different city but commutes daily from and to our town. Last month, she experienced back pain, and her father promptly took her to the hospital for treatment. Had she been alone, she might not have received timely medical attention. This scenario clearly demonstrates the advantage of having family support.
In conclusion, after carefully considering both perspectives, I am inclined to believe that studying in a city where family is present is the optimal choice. As a student, having someone to care for me enables me to focus on my studies, while still allowing me to cultivate independence without being isolated
