Band 6+: In some cultures, children are often told that they can achieve anything if they try hard enough. what are the advantage and disadvantage of giving children this message.

In contemporary society, there has been a noticeable shift in people’s perspectives towards guiding children. Some individuals advocate that children should be told that they can achieve anything if they try hard, while others disagree. I disagree with this opinion and will outline several compelling reasons to justify my standpoint. From a social standpoint, parents often believe that if they start guiding or motivating their children from a young age, and tell them that they can possess anything if they work hard, their child will become more capable and motivated. However, this belief can lead to parents pressuring their children to pursue specific careers, such as IIT, NIT, NEET, CA, CS, LLB, IAS, and IPS, and even making significant investments in their child’s education. Parents may also use material rewards, such as expensive gifts, to motivate their children to work hard. For example, my father promised my sister a MacBook if she cleared the IIT exam. However, some individuals believe that hard work is not the only factor in achieving success and that a child’s interests and natural abilities also play a vital role. Every child has a different level of intelligence and capacity for acquiring knowledge and may excel in areas that others find difficult. More than just hard work, discipline is also important in achieving success. If a child is disciplined in their life, they can achieve any milestone. Constantly telling a child that they can achieve anything if they work hard can be detrimental to their mindset, as it may lead them to doubt their own capabilities if they are unable to achieve their goals. In my opinion, every child has unique abilities, talents, and goals, and parents should motivate them without imposing their own aspirations on them. It is often said that a child looks for support and encouragement from their parents, as parents have the power to build a strong foundation for their child’s future.
